URI — Uniform Resource Identifier
Nedir URI?
Bu terim şu anda yalnızca İngilizce olarak sunulmaktadır.
A URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) is a compact string that identifies an abstract or physical resource — a web page, a file, an API endpoint, or a SIP endpoint. In CPaaS and VoIP engineering the term matters because SIP addresses, such as `sip:+15551234567@example.com;user=phone`, are URIs that name both who is being called and which domain handles the call.
More detail
A URI has two common forms: a URL (Uniform Resource Locator), which tells you how to reach a resource, and a URN (Uniform Resource Name), which gives it a persistent name without specifying retrieval. A SIP URI is a URL because it also encodes the scheme and host used to route the request; a tel URI (`tel:+15551234567`) is closer to a pure identifier.
In practice, CPaaS platforms parse URIs to decide routing. A SIP trunk registration points to a provider URI, an INVITE's Request-URI names the destination, and Contact headers carry the URI where responses should be sent. Misconfigured URIs — missing `user=phone`, a malformed host, or an unsupported scheme — are a routine cause of failed call setup.
The URI concept also appears in messaging and email. Webhook URLs, callback endpoints, media file locations, and deep links are all URIs. A well-formed URI keeps a resource unambiguous across systems, which is why standards like RFC 3986 define the exact syntax for schemes, authority, paths, queries, and fragments.

- What is the difference between a URI and a URL?
- A URI is the umbrella term for any string that identifies a resource. A URL is a URI that also tells you how to access the resource — it includes a scheme and location, like `https://orbit.devotel.io` or `sip:user@example.com`. Every URL is a URI, but not every URI is a URL.
- What is a SIP URI?
- A SIP URI is a URI using the `sip:` or `sips:` scheme that identifies a user or endpoint in a Session Initiation Protocol network. It looks like `sip:+15551234567@example.com` and tells the softswitch or SBC which domain and user the call should reach.
- Why does URI matter for CPaaS voice routing?
- Because every SIP call is addressed with a URI. The Request-URI in an INVITE names the destination, the From/To headers name the parties, and the Contact header tells the network where to send responses. If any URI is malformed, the call may be rejected before it reaches the destination carrier.
