What is HLR lookup?
An HLR (Home Location Register) lookup queries a mobile carrier's subscriber database in real time to check whether a phone number is currently valid, active, and which network it's registered on, without sending it any traffic. Messaging and voice platforms run an HLR lookup before a send to catch disconnected or ported numbers, avoiding wasted spend and inflated bounce rates from dead numbers on a contact list.
