Presence
Was ist Presence?
Dieser Eintrag liegt derzeit nur auf Englisch vor.
Presence is the real-time status a UCaaS platform shows for each user — available, busy, in a meeting, on a call, away, do not disturb — so a colleague can see at a glance whether someone is reachable before calling or messaging them. Presence typically updates automatically from calendar events and active calls, alongside a status a user sets manually, and syncs across desk phone, softphone, and chat.
More detail
A worked example: a teammate's Google Calendar flips to a meeting that started two minutes ago, and their status shifts to busy on its own. The inbound call that would otherwise have rung their softphone routes to the next available colleague — no one had to touch anything or ask whether they were free first.
Presence is not a contact-center agent status, even though both describe availability: a contact-center agent state (available, on a call, in wrap-up, unavailable) is a queue-facing working state a routing engine consumes, while UCaaS presence is a person-facing availability signal colleagues read before they call or message. On Orbit, the Settings → Presence page federates the latter — folding availability reported by Microsoft Teams, Slack, Webex, Zoom, and a Google or Microsoft 365 calendar into inbound call routing on a most-busy-wins rule, with a manually set status always winning over any federated source.
Automatic presence signals — an active call, a calendar meeting in progress, a device going idle — sit underneath any manual status a user sets themselves, which is what makes a team messaging app or softphone feel connected to real availability instead of a static contact list with no sense of who is actually free right now.
Häufige Fragen
- Does presence update automatically or does a user have to set it?
- Both — most platforms auto-detect signals like an active call or a calendar meeting and combine them with a manual status a user can set themselves, such as marking do-not-disturb during focused work. A manual status typically wins over any automatic signal when the two disagree.
- Does presence sync across a desk phone, softphone, and chat app?
- In a properly integrated UCaaS platform, yes — being on a desk phone call is reflected the same way in the softphone and chat client, so a colleague sees one consistent status regardless of which device they check.
