RCS — Rich Communication Services
Was ist RCS?
Dieser Eintrag liegt derzeit nur auf Englisch vor.
RCS (Rich Communication Services) is the GSMA carrier standard that upgrades SMS with read receipts, typing indicators, high-resolution media, suggested replies, and a verified sender name and logo — while still landing in the phone's native messaging app rather than a separate app like WhatsApp. RCS Business Messaging lets a verified brand send these richer messages to Android, and a growing set of iOS, users through their default texting app.
More detail
Because RCS rides the carrier messaging network (not an over-the-top app), delivery still depends on the recipient's device and carrier supporting RCS and the conversation falling back to plain SMS when they do not — so a well-built RCS integration always has an SMS fallback.
Verified RCS senders display a checkmark, brand name, and logo in the conversation, which is the main trust signal that differentiates a legitimate business message from spam.
Häufige Fragen
- Does RCS require a separate app like WhatsApp does?
- No. RCS messages appear in the recipient's default messaging app — the same app they already use for SMS — rather than requiring them to install a separate business messaging app.
- What happens if a recipient's phone doesn't support RCS?
- The message falls back to standard SMS or MMS automatically, so the recipient still receives it — just without the rich media, read receipts, and verified branding.
