Carrier & line-type lookup checker
Paste a phone number to see its detected line type (mobile, fixed line, toll-free, VoIP, …) and whether that type generally supports SMS and voice. This reads the number's format, not a live carrier network — no sign-up required.
- Country
- United States
- Line type
- Fixed line or mobile
- SMS
- Depends
- Voice
- Yes
This range serves both fixed and mobile lines in its numbering plan — SMS support depends on which it actually is.
This is a structural classification from the number's format — not a live carrier network query. For a definitive, billed carrier lookup on your own traffic, see the Number Lookup API.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this a real-time carrier network lookup?
- No. This free tool classifies a number's line type (mobile, fixed line, toll-free, VoIP, …) from its format using the same libphonenumber-js engine as Orbit's E.164 tool. It does not perform a live carrier network (HLR) query. Orbit's authenticated Number Lookup API performs a real, billed carrier dip for signed-in accounts.
- Can a landline receive SMS?
- Not natively. Fixed-line numbers generally only support voice unless the carrier offers a separate text-enablement add-on. Toll-free numbers can be SMS-enabled, but only after a distinct toll-free SMS verification process.
