Drip campaign

Qué es Drip campaign?

Esta entrada está disponible actualmente solo en inglés.

A drip campaign is an automated series of messages — SMS, email, WhatsApp, or voice — sent to a customer over time instead of all at once, with each step triggered by a schedule or by what the customer does. A welcome sequence, a renewal reminder, or an abandoned-cart follow-up are typical examples: every enrolled contact moves through the same steps at their own pace, and each send respects the contact's consent state and allowed sending windows.

More detail

A drip campaign differs from a one-off blast in pacing and state: instead of one message sent to a whole audience at once, each enrolled contact receives the steps of the sequence individually, and the platform tracks exactly where every contact stands — which step they received, when, and what happened next.

Triggers are either timed (three days after sign-up) or behavioral (a contact clicks a link, replies, or goes quiet), and a well-built sequence stops automatically when its goal is achieved — a customer who purchases no longer receives abandoned-cart nudges. Compliance rules travel with the campaign: consent and opt-out handling, 10DLC registration for US SMS, and quiet hours apply to every step, not just the first send.

On Devotel Orbit, drip campaigns are built as multi-channel journeys: a sequence can start on SMS, wait for a reply or a window, and fall back to WhatsApp or email when a step goes undelivered — with per-step delivery and engagement reporting feeding back into the contact profile.

Preguntas frecuentes

What is a drip campaign?
A drip campaign is an automated sequence of messages sent to each customer on a schedule or in response to their behavior — for example a welcome series after sign-up or reminders before a renewal — rather than a single message blasted to a whole list at one moment.
How is a drip campaign different from a marketing blast?
A blast sends one message to an entire audience at a single moment. A drip campaign moves every contact through an ordered sequence of steps at their own pace, advancing on timers or on what each contact does, and stopping automatically when the goal is reached.
Which channels can a drip campaign use?
Common channels are SMS, email, WhatsApp, and automated voice calls. Multi-channel drip campaigns chain them — starting on SMS and falling back to WhatsApp or email when a step is undelivered — so the sequence still reaches the customer instead of stalling on one channel.
When should a drip campaign stop sending to a contact?
When the goal of the sequence is achieved — a purchase, a booking, a reply — or when the contact opts out. Well-built drip campaigns exit a contact automatically on either event instead of continuing to send steps that no longer apply.
