Order Notifications

Qué es Order Notifications?

Esta entrada está disponible actualmente solo en inglés.

Order notifications are automated transactional messages — order confirmations, shipping updates, and delivery alerts — sent over SMS, WhatsApp, or email as a customer's order moves through each fulfillment stage. E-commerce and retail senders use them to keep buyers informed without a 'where is my order?' support call, and because each message references a real purchase it classifies as transactional rather than promotional traffic.

More detail

The pattern is event-driven: the commerce or order-management system emits an event at each stage — placed, confirmed, shipped (with a tracking link), out for delivery, delivered — and the messaging platform turns that webhook into a templated outbound message. Senders usually add an exception branch too, so a delay, a failed delivery attempt, or a refund reaches the customer before they think to ask.

Order notifications work best as part of a notification program rather than a one-off integration: the same event pipeline can also drive appointment reminders and ETA alerts, and a consistent sender ID plus delivery receipts let the sender measure delivery per stage. Keep the content strictly about the order — attaching marketing copy can push the message into the more heavily filtered promotional category.

Preguntas frecuentes

Which events should trigger an order notification?
At minimum: order confirmation, a shipped message with the tracking link, and a delivered confirmation. High-volume senders add out-for-delivery, delay or failed-delivery exception messages, and refund or cancellation confirmations — each one removes a class of inbound support tickets.
Are order notifications transactional or promotional?
Transactional — the recipient's purchase establishes the consent, and the message content stays strictly about that order. Senders should still send SMS over an A2P-registered route (for example a 10DLC-registered brand in the US) and honor STOP immediately on every notification.
Which channel works best for order notifications — SMS, WhatsApp, or email?
SMS reaches effectively every handset without an app, so it is the default for short status updates; WhatsApp adds richer formatting and interactive buttons (such as a track-order button) where recipients use the app; email carries the full receipt detail. Most senders pick one primary channel per recipient instead of duplicating every update.
