Field notes on AI-era growth, deliverability, voice, and messaging for developers and teams building on Orbit by Devotel.
Orbit vs Telesign: where the verify and phone-identity incumbent is an honest fit, the capability table across OTP channels and SIM-swap gating, and when to pick Devotel Orbit.
Silent Network Authentication (SNA) explained for verification buyers — the GSMA Open Gateway / CAMARA Number Verification flow, how a device-bound network token completes verification without an OTP, how it compares to SMS OTP and passkeys, and how to wire it on the Orbit by Devotel Verify API with shipped fail-closed behavior.
A cross-channel decision matrix for verification — SMS OTP, voice OTP, email OTP, WhatsApp OTP, SNA possession-proof, passkeys/WebAuthN, and magic links scored on fraud resistance, latency, coverage, deliverability, and cost, then mapped to arrival, step-up, and sensitive moments.
Verify-only providers send and check a code and leave the blocking to you. The SMS-pumping mitigation question is which pattern — plain verify, verify plus rate limiting, or fraud-aware verify — actually refuses a pumped send before it bills, and what each one costs.
Orbit vs ValueFirst: the Twilio-owned India messaging head-to-head, honest parity on SMS, OTP, and WhatsApp, and the single-wallet platform that moves the comparison.
Orbit vs ACL Mobile: the MENA and India SMS head-to-head, honest parity on SMS, OTP, and WhatsApp, and the self-serve posture that moves the comparison.
The buyer's first entry to a Verify API is OTP onboarding; the real evaluation is everything attached to it. This explainer walks the shipped Devotel Orbit verification surfaces for fintech builders. It covers SIM-swap risk, fraud monitoring, voice biometrics, PCI-aware pay-by-link and wallet passes, with the tenant-owned posture checklist.
The 2026 SMS pumping and gray-route wave in plain terms — how artificial traffic inflation to premium numbers and unregistered-origin routes actually work, why regulators and carriers moved this year, and the tenant-owned controls (pre-send fraud checks, sender registration, frequency caps, suppression, conversion-anomaly reporting) that put the cost back on the attacker.
How a verification product actually works end to end — OTP as the buyer-facing entry point to a Verify API, why delivery depends on channel availability, how fraud monitoring closes the loop on verification fraud, and the tenant checklist for setting your own verification posture.
